the story takes place in france in 1888. vincent and charlie are two detectives whose ultimate purpose is to find the culprit behind the murder of vincent's parents (or at least that's that they claim...)(note : noëlle and silke are part of another story but it takes place in the same universe so i'm putting them together.)

a long time ago, an old woman with a sick son made a wish to the stars for him to recover, an entity answered to her prayers but told her that it couldn’t save people from their upcoming death but it promised her that it could give her a power that could grant her son a wish but in exchange she would become a witch whose purpose is to grant wishes to children.
her son always dreamt to go to a amusement park like a normal kid at least once before his death.
the old lady now works as a fortune teller at the amusement park that was created thanks to the entity’s power. this place feeds itself with children’s wishes that get fulfilled.one day, a girl made the wish to the old lady, she asked to become like the princess from her favorite storybook, she wants to be put asleep until a hero save her from her loneliness.
because of this wish, another world was created, if someone were to pull the sword stuck in a rock at the amusement park, they would get sent to this other world as a Chosen One. their outfit changes depending on their vision of what the person who pulled the sword should be like.
a Chosen One is picked every year, the portal to the other world opens once a year on the 31st october at midnight and it closes on the 1st november at midnight.
unfortunately after 30 years, the girl still wasn’t rescued and the old lady being unable to grant another wish as long as the previous one was not fulfilled started losing control of her power and the other world started being corrupted since the joy coming from the wishes granted was the source of the power.

the four of them reside in a boarding school located near the woods.
jo is the main character , they were found in the forest unconscious. they are amnesic and were sent to the local boarding school since they have no relative to pick them up.
the three other girls are part of the photography club of the school, they also write the school newspaper. while working on an article talking about the disappearance of a kid that happened 30 years ago, they notice that the missing kid looks uncannily similar to jo. they’re convinced that they’re the same person and decide to help jo in their own way.
lou is really into cryptozoology so she thinks that jo is some kind of skinwalker at first.
camille thinks that jo was kidnapped by aliens 30 years ago and that the aliens just brought them back.
abigail thinks that they look alike bc of some kind of curse.
